Opportunistic; entrepreneurial; idiot

As much as I hate to admit it, I’ve fallen for a scam that cost me 340 million ISK. There’s a site you may be familiar with called Eve-Bazaar.com. I came across it in local somewhere (red flag, anyone?), and after looking at it and looking at prices on the Jita market, I thought I may be able to make some nice profit. After all, the site seems pretty legit. The catalyst for me to throw my hard-earned ISK away at this site was the dev-blog for the summer expansion which talks about how faction battleships are getting a buff; the Rattlesnake in particular. I figured that the prices of these faction battleships would go up in price as the summer expansion gets closer, so I pulled the trigger and sent ISK to the contact as directed in the instructions. My profile updated accordingly, so far so good. After about an hour my status changed from “pending” to “in progress”…and there it has stayed for more than two weeks. I’ve sent a couple emails to the contact, but to no avail. They were nice emails, mostly asking for a followup on my order.

I can’t say that I’m surprised, but I can say that I’m disappointed in myself. I see something that’s too good to be true, and think to myself, “It’s probably legit; let’s do it!” When I came to the realization that I was scammed, it was then (and only then) that I decided to do some research on the scammers. I found a wealth of information (facepalm) on the topic, including some information on a blog that I already follow (double facepalm) called MarketsforISK. <—This guy’s blog is awesome for market stuff. I bet he’s never fallen for a scam like this.

So, no excuses. I messed up; and now I’m telling my readers about it. Why? I could say, “well because I don’t want the same to happen to you.”, but that’s not the reason. The real reason is because when Eve-bazaar comes clean, when their scam is all over and they come out with the numbers and the victims (me), just remember you heard it here first (/me hangs his head in shame).

A chicken made of ice

A chicken made of ice

In other, less embarrassing news, I’ve been mining some ice lately, and I happened across this Ice Chicken. Yes, it’s a chicken made of ice. A frozen chicken, if you will. This is in no way an attempt to try to make you forget my noobishness scam I fell for. It’s simply a giant chicken-shaped chunk of ice.

Additionally, I’ve been keeping up with The Incompitent Capsuleer, a newer pilot in New Eden and his blog. Please go give it a read, as it’s good stuff. Again, not an attempt to distract.

What Are You Going to do Next?…

I’m going to Disneyland. Yes it’s true. My kids deserve a vacation, and we’re leaving in the morning. Not that I’ve had much to write about from an Eve perspective, but the next ten days will be justified.

I’ve been running missions like crazy to be able to PLEX both my characters this month. I’ve also been back to playing raffles over at EVEalopalous. It really helps pass the time while my drones kill mission rats. If you care to give it a try, they give you 7 million ISK for free, AAAAND you can get me a referral if you sign up through this link. It really is good fun.

Also, if you’re a missioner and you don’t like to salvage your missions, there’s a Corp called Pro Synergy who specializes in salvaging your missions. Even better, they pay you 45% of the estimated value of your mission loot. They keep all your loot value on a spreadsheet so you can keep track, and they pay you out once a week. It’s not gonna make you filthy rich, but it will help keep the space lanes clear of hazardous wrecks, and get you a nice paycheck. I’ve been working with Pro Synergy for a few weeks now, and I’m not disappointed.

Other than missions and raffles, not too much to report on Eve. I’ve been training some more missile skills on my main, and training into a Noctis on my alt. I’ve officially opened up recruitment for my Corp, complete with a business plan, forums and all. If you know anyone who’s looking for  a few good pilots to fly with, please send them my way.

Addicted to gambling

I was happily browsing the market of Dodixie for a would-be wormhole ship today when one of the many links climbing the local chat channel cought my eye. I clicked on it and my entire day suddenly became a gambling spree. But here’s the thing…It was some of the most fun I’ve had in a long time. It’s an Eve raffle site for ISK, ships, mods and PLEX. If you’re interested in checking it out the site is http://www.evealopalous.com/?ref=1010649507 . You get 7 million ISK for registering which you can spend on the raffle you see fit. I put mine directly toward the 5x PLEX raffle. Anyway, if you register using the link I just gave you, I will get some extra credits for referring someone. You will get the same for people you refer to register.

I was very excited about the ISk raffles….so excited that I thought it’d be a good idea to put 70 million of my own ISK into my raffle account. I have won ISK and lost ISK and just been having a merry time. It’s a pretty nifty site as it keeps track of the amount of ISK you’ve put in and won. I admit that I’ve yet to make back my initial 70 million ISK investment, but I’ve not run out of that initial investment, not by a long shot. So check it out if you feel so inclined. If nothing else spend the free 7 million ISK they give you as a registration gift.

It’s best to do it from your in-game browser. Makes the registration process a breeze. Ok, enough about my newly aquired gambling addiction. Tomorrow will hopefully result in some wormhole finding and exploiting of the sleeper sites. Until next time, stay classy San Diego.
